New Leadership at Chinar Corps: Lt Gen Balbir Singh Takes Command

Lieutenant General Balbir Singh officially assumed leadership of the Army's strategic XV Corps, popularly known as Chinar Corps, in Srinagar on Friday. He takes over the position from Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, who has been reassigned as Quarter Master General at the Army headquarters in New Delhi.
As a distinguished and battle-tested officer with more than 34 years of service, Lt Gen Singh previously led the Victor Force, responsible for counter-insurgency operations in south and central Kashmir. After taking charge, he paid solemn respects at the Chinar War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices of India's brave soldiers. In his initial address, Singh emphasized the importance of collaboration with local civil administration to ensure peace and prosperity in the region. He called for collective efforts to address ongoing challenges.
Lt Gen Srivastava's tenure, lasting 19 months, was marked by strategic successes, including successful operations (OP SINDOOR & OP MAHADEV) and seamless execution of the Amarnath Yatra 2025. In a farewell message, he expressed gratitude to the Chinar Corps, local police, and community for their unwavering support in fostering regional harmony.
