Tensions Rise as Pro-Palestinian Flotilla Faces Israeli Blockade

In a dramatic confrontation at sea, over 100 pro-Palestinian activists aboard aid vessels destined for Gaza found themselves on the Greek island of Crete, after their ships were intercepted by Israeli forces. The flotilla, aimed at breaking the blockade of Gaza, had set sail from Barcelona on April 12.

According to organisers and footage from Reuters, 168 members of the flotilla were transferred by an Israeli army ship to Greek boats. These activists, part of the second Global Sumud flotilla, were then taken to shore for further transit via buses and ambulances.

Tensions escalated as Israel's foreign ministry accused the flotilla organisers of being 'professional provocateurs' committed to breaching a lawful naval blockade. Meanwhile, reports emerged of harsh and inhumane conditions faced by activists, accompanied by international diplomatic responses expressing concern.
