In a shocking incident, police have arrested a 46-year-old Child Welfare Committee member, Haniyur Chandregowda, for allegedly blackmailing a woman with explicit photos to force her into a sexual relationship, they announced on Saturday.
The arrest came after a 43-year-old make-up artist filed a complaint with the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station. She accused Chandregowda of posing as a TV serial-connected lecturer and defrauding her of around Rs 5 lakh in addition to blackmailing her.
Chandregowda, who also allegedly impersonated a police officer to dodge toll fees, has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities discovered obscene photos of other women on his mobile, raising further concerns.
