In a strategic move to bolster security, Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma conducted an extensive assessment in the Shiv Khori-Ransoo belt of Jammu & Kashmir. The region witnessed a terrorist attack in June, resulting in nine fatalities and 33 injuries as a bus of pilgrims was targeted.
Sharma's review aimed at enhancing the operational readiness of police forces including the Special Operations Group and CRPF in the affected areas. He assessed the entire security framework to guarantee the safety of devotees participating in the Shiv Khori yatra, a significant pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva that draws millions annually.
Ensuring a vigilant environment, Sharma inspected critical points such as CCTV control, baggage checks, and bus stands, reinforcing the importance of surveillance, coordination among agencies, and emergency preparedness.
