Hyderabad Police Crackdown on Online Betting Scams

Hyderabad Police have successfully dismantled 184 social media profiles engaged in promoting illegal online gaming and investment scams in India. These profiles were running a total of 801 paid advertisements, strategically crafted to attract users with promises of easy money, bonuses, and substantial returns.

According to a release from Hyderabad Police, the Cyber Crime unit utilized continuous digital monitoring and intelligence tracking to pinpoint profiles sharing misleading promotional content. These included referral links, IPL predictions, and deepfake videos featuring famous personalities, all aimed at luring the public into illegal betting and fraudulent investment schemes.

As a preventive measure, the compromised accounts have been reported and taken down. Furthermore, six FIRs were registered in April against those involved. The crackdown is part of an ongoing initiative that has led to the removal of 427 profiles and 1,903 advertisements. Investigations continue to identify and prosecute the individuals and financial networks linked to these scams.
