Russian troops are advancing toward the city of Kostiantynivka in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, according to Ukraine's top army official. Kostiantynivka is part of a heavily defended area known as a fortress belt.
Ukraine's army chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported ongoing counter-sabotage measures to prevent Russian forces from establishing control. Despite Russian advancements, the area remains contested, with parts marked as a grey zone.
Russian forces recently claimed control of Novodmytrivka, north of Kostiantynivka. April saw a rise in Russian offensive actions, with 83 assaults noted since Monday. Peace talks are stalled as Ukraine refuses to withdraw from contested eastern regions.
