A 65-year-old man with a criminal record has been detained for allegedly sexually assaulting and killing a four-year-old girl in Pune's Bhor tehsil. The incident has resulted in considerable public outrage, with protests erupting in the area.
The accused, identified as a laborer, reportedly lured the child into a cattle enclosure under the pretense of offering food, subsequently assaulting and killing her. He was apprehended thanks to CCTV evidence. A case has been filed under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with police promising rapid action.
In response, social and political leaders have demanded stringent punishment. Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, emphasized a fast-track court process, while also pledging support to the victim's family.
