Supreme Court Declines Relief Over Dubai Travel Ban

The Supreme Court on Monday chose not to grant injunction to Asif Azad, an Indian national residing in Dubai, who alleged harassment by local authorities citing wrongful travel restrictions. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, recommended Azad seek aid directly from the Indian Embassy in the UAE.

During a video conference from a Dubai shopping mall, Azad, an engineer from Kerala, submitted that a drug mafia had entrapped and implicated him in a case, consequently imposing a travel ban on him. However, the Court, after hearing his plea, was unconvinced by the narrative and advised contacting embassy services.

Azad further alleged that certain members of the Kerala legislative assembly held bias against him. He voiced concerns about ongoing investigations in Kerala that seem one-sided and stagnant. The CJI suggested Azad might benefit from the political shifts currently unfolding in Kerala.
