In a devastating incident that shook the city of Leipzig, Germany, a vehicle entered a bustling pedestrian zone, resulting in two fatalities and numerous injuries. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung revealed these details during a press conference held on-site.
The driver has been detained by police, though authorities are yet to discern the attacker's motivations. "The motivation and background of the perpetrator remain unclear," Mayor Jung communicated via a video posted by local media platform Leipziger Volkszeitung.
Though police are treating the situation with urgency, details on the injuries sustained are still forthcoming. However, a representative from the mayor's office confirmed two individuals were seriously harmed. Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes, including a Volkswagen SUV recklessly speeding through and multiple bodies covered with sheets.
