In a shocking revelation, the Varanasi Police have detained a police constable accused of rape and coercion. Prashant Rai, assigned to Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar's security detail, is alleged to have committed these acts under false pretenses of marriage over the past four years.
Sarnath police officials stated that the survivor, who lived with Rai in Sarnath, was deceived into a relationship that led to unwanted pregnancies. Rai is accused of coercing the woman into multiple abortions while promising marriage that never came to fruition.
The deception was uncovered when the victim discovered Rai's secret marriage to another woman in April. The constable's arrest throws light on a long duration of exploitation, and further legal proceedings are in progress, according to Sarnath Station House Officer Pankaj Kumar Tripathi.
