In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has decided to appoint senior lawyers as amici curiae for AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Durgesh Pathak, in a contentious CBI case concerning the liquor policy. The decision was made after these leaders boycotted a court hearing, citing concerns of bias.
The case, presided over by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, faced a setback as the AAP leaders, including former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal, refused to participate before the judge. This move came post their recusal plea was rejected by the court, with the leaders opting to follow a path of 'Satyagraha'.
Justice Sharma has deferred the hearing on the CBI's petition challenging a trial court's discharge decision of the leaders until May 8. The Court plans to appoint senior advocates to represent the unrepresented leaders before proceeding further. This high-profile case continues to unfold amid allegations and judicial scrutiny.
