Deadly Strikes Amid Ceasefire Proposals in Ukraine Conflict
At least 22 people were killed on Tuesday in Russian attacks on Ukraine, amid discussions of an open-ended ceasefire proposed by Kyiv. Ukraine's President Zelenskiy urged Russia to agree, as deadly strikes continued including a significant attack in Zaporizhzhia and other regions.
On Tuesday, Russian incursions into Ukraine resulted in the deaths of at least 22 individuals, marking one of the year's most severe offensives. As Kyiv's proposal for an open-ended ceasefire deadline approached, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reiterated Ukraine's plea for peace.
Russia had declared a temporary ceasefire from May 8-9 to commemorate its World War Two victory, including a military parade. However, Ukraine urged an immediate start to a ceasefire from midnight Wednesday, with President Zelenskiy highlighting the tragedy of Russia conducting parades while sustaining maximal strikes.
In Zaporizhzhia, 12 victims succumbed to Russian shelling, per emergency services via Telegram. Another five lives were claimed in Kramatorsk due to aerial bombardment. Simultaneously, a Russian attack on Poltava's gas facilities and a drone assault by Ukraine in Russia's Chuvashia region resulted in casualties, complicating diplomatic efforts.
