In a major breakthrough, Lucknow Police have apprehended three members of a gang involved in extorting women using intimidation tactics in market areas. The police arrested Ajay Rawat, alias Rani, Aakash Gupta, alias Kamoulika, and Rafiq Ahmad, nabbing them within 24 hours of a robbery in the Bijnor area.
The gang, exploiting their identity as kinnars, targeted women, using coercion and obscene behavior to extort money and valuables. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kumar Anand revealed that the accused created panic to extort women, resorting to violent means when resisted.
CCTV surveillance played a critical role in tracking their movements, leading to their arrest. The police recovered stolen jewellery and seized a WagonR used during the crime. Despite this success, one gang member, Annu, is still absconding. A case has been registered under relevant legal sections.
