The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has voiced grave concerns over an incident where a young advocate was placed in 24-hour judicial custody by an Andhra Pradesh High Court judge. This incident has prompted the SCBA to call for the intervention of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
Through its president, Vikas Singh, the SCBA emphasized that judicial strength is demonstrated through patience, not intimidation, especially regarding young lawyers. The association highlighted that such actions might negatively impact the independence of the bar and justice delivery.
The Bar Council of India echoed these sentiments, urging an immediate intervention. They cited a video showing the judge mocking the advocate before ordering custody. The SCBA seeks measures to uphold public confidence and maintain respectful bar-bench relations.
