Government Halts TV News TRPs Amidst West Asia Conflict
In response to the West Asia conflict, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has extended its order to withhold the Television Rating Points (TRPs) of news channels to curb sensationalism. This measure aims to prevent panic among the public, particularly those with ties to affected regions.
Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, the government has extended its restriction on reporting Television Rating Points (TRPs) for news channels by four more weeks. The action, spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, targets the prevention of sensational and speculative content on airwaves, aiming to curb any potential panic among viewers.
Initially imposed on March 6, the order directed the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to withhold TRP data for news channels. The directive has been further extended until the situation stabilizes or future directives are issued.
Officials emphasize the importance of these measures in line with the 'Policy Guidelines for Television Rating Agencies in India'. The guidelines mandate compliance with ministry directives to maintain public interest and channel integrity during sensitive times.
