Despite the decline, Delhi maintained the highest kidnapping rate among all states and Union Territories at 25.5 cases per lakh, much above the national average. In 2024, Delhi recorded 5,580 cases of kidnapping and abduction, marking a slight reduction from the 5,715 cases in 2023, according to fresh data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The national capital continues to hold the grim distinction of having the highest rate of kidnapping cases in the country, at 25.5 per lakh population, a stark contrast to the national average of 6.8.
Despite a diminished overall figure, the charge sheeting rate in Delhi was alarmingly low at 8.5 percent, compared to the nationwide average of 30.9 percent. Meanwhile, across India, 96,079 kidnapping cases were logged, a decrease from the previous year's 1,13,564.
