Election Seizures Surge: Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Lead the Pack
Recent elections in five Indian assemblies saw significant seizure of inducements worth Rs 1,445 crore. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest cash seizures, while West Bengal led in liquor and drug seizures. The overall seizure value rose 40.14% compared to 2021 polls, showcasing increased vigilance and enforcement during elections.

Significant inducements totaling Rs 1,445 crore were seized during recent Indian assembly elections, marking a 40.14% increase from 2021. While Tamil Nadu led in cash recoveries, West Bengal topped liquor and drug confiscations, the Election Commission disclosed.
The increase reflects escalated enforcement efforts, with West Bengal showing a 68.92% rise in seizures and Tamil Nadu 48.40% up compared to 2021. In total, nearly Rs. 155 crore was recovered in cash, along with Rs. 183.33 crore worth of liquor seized.
Wide-ranging bribes, including drugs, sarees, and electronics, were intended to sway electoral outcomes. Drugs worth Rs. 3,338 crore were confiscated, with West Bengal alone accounting for Rs. 30.28 crore. The polls took place across West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, with results announced on May 4.
