In a landmark judgment, a Special POCSO Court in Thane, Maharashtra, has convicted 37-year-old teacher Deepak Shrimant Kadam, sentencing him to three years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student during a 'surprise test' seven years ago.
Special Judge Ruby U Malvankar Kadam emphasized that such actions severely damage the sanctity of the 'guru-shishya' bond. The court found Kadam guilty under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The crime took place on May 24, 2019, at a technical institute, where Kadam deceptively summoned the victim to his cabin. Despite his claims that the complaint was a diversion tactic for poor attendance, the court dismissed this defence. The court ordered Kadam to compensate the victim and recommended the case for consideration under the Manodhairya Scheme.
