In a significant development at the Allahabad High Court, Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal has chosen to recuse himself from hearing a contempt petition involving Swami Avimukteshwaranand. The case pertains to allegations of the Swami disobeying court directives in a POCSO case registered in Prayagraj.
The matter, which came up for hearing on Wednesday, was redirected to another bench following Justice Agarwal's decision. He instructed that the case be presented as new business before a different bench nominated by the Chief Justice.
The contempt petition, filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari Maharaj, accuses Swami Avimukteshwaranand of holding unauthorized meetings and making public statements, contravening the conditions of his anticipatory bail granted on March 25. The bail conditions explicitly prohibit any inducement or interference with evidence, and bar media interactions.
