Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Lisa Gill on Saturday said here that Artificial Intelligence should be used carefully, observing that technology should be an advantage but not a deprivation of independent thought process. Justice Gill noted that AI tools cannot be an alternative to human thinking, especially at a time when the prominence of technology and digitalisation is rising day by day in the judiciary. ''Be careful on the use of AI. We should use technology to our advantage, but not lose independent thinking. Tools like ChatGPT cannot be an alternative to human thinking,'' said an official press release quoting Gill. Underscoring the importance of mediation, the chief justice observed that it should not be limited to family disputes or motor accidents. According to Gill, resolving disputes with mutual understanding is the real victory rather than concluding them through verdicts alone. She called on lawyers and judges to further promote mediation and wished that courts should not remain as dispute settlement places but emerge as peaceful venues for removing mutual differences. Earlier, Justice Gill inaugurated the newly constructed Ten Courts Building Complex at Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district. High Court judges Battu Devanand, R Raghunandan Rao, BVLN Chakravarthi, Sumathi Jagadam, and Nyapathy Vijay also attended the inauguration ceremony. ''The Ten Courts Building Complex in Rajamahendravaram was inaugurated by High Court Chief Justice Lisa Gill,'' a press release said. Following the inauguration, the judges inspected the court halls and other modern facilities. East Godavari Principal District Judge Sunitha Gandham explained the features of the complex to the High Court judges, the press release added. The chief justice expressed hope that the new court buildings will fortify truth and justice and further strengthen judicial services.
