A one-hour special self-enumeration drive was conducted across Ranchi on Sunday as part of the first phase of the Census exercise, officials said. The digital self-enumeration process, which began in Jharkhand on May 1, enables residents to submit household details online. As part of the awareness drive, officers and employees at the district collectorate, block offices and circle offices completed their online self-enumeration between 12 pm and 1 pm. Citizens were also assisted with the process at panchayat secretariats and Anganwadi centres across the district. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chief Census Officer Manjunath Bhajantri said the initiative aimed to encourage wider public participation in the digital self-enumeration process through the official Census portal. According to the State Directorate of Census Operations, the self-enumeration exercise will continue till May 15. This will be followed by housing listing and housing census field operations from May 16 to June 14, during which enumerators will visit households across Jharkhand to collect data directly. Around 76,000 enumerators and supervisors have been deployed across the state for the exercise. The first phase will cover 33 questions related to housing conditions, family details, household amenities and assets. The second phase of Census 2027 is scheduled between February 9 and February 28 next year. It will focus on population enumeration, collecting demographic, socio-cultural and economic data, along with migration and reproductive details of family members.
