Three persons were remanded in police custody till May 16 by a Latur court after being arrested in a Rs 2.38 crore government funds misappropriation case, an official said on Sunday. The irregularity was detected in the salary disbursement section of the Latur Superintendent of Police office in Latur, following which a case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Shivajinagar police station for cheating and other offences, the official said. The FIR named clerks Rahul Govindrao Wagdare, Brijkishore Thakur and Dattatray Maruti Kshirsagar as well as sub-inspector Ajay Digambar Suryawanshi, he added. ''Over a period of 10 years between May 2015 and 2025, the accused misappropriated government funds by manipulating salary records, preparing forged documents and misusing them to release excess payments under various heads including incentive, basic arrears, special pay and other salary components,'' he said. ''The accused transferred excess amounts and later routed portions of the funds into their own bank accounts, causing a loss of Rs 2.38 crore to the government exchequer. Three persons were arrested and have been remanded in police custody till May 16. The probe is being carried out by Deputy SP Sameersingh Salve,'' the official informed.
