Ajit Kumar Sahoo, 38, was brutally killed in Odisha's Nayagarh district amid a row over illegal laterite stone mining, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that on Monday, Ajit and his friend Santosh Kumar Pradhan intercepted two trucks late at night, allegedly to extort money from the drivers. Tensions escalated, leading to Ajit being attacked by six assailants.
The attackers, armed with a sword, left Ajit severely injured and fled. Protests erupted demanding justice and action against illegal mining. Local law enforcement, along with top officials, are intensifying efforts to address the ongoing mining issues.
