The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, has announced an initiative to modernize court infrastructure nationwide. A high-powered committee, led by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar, will draft a comprehensive modernization plan.
The 'Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee' aims to secure government funding between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000 crore. Apart from Justice Kumar, the team includes justices from high courts in Calcutta, Punjab and Haryana, and Bombay, along with members from the Central Public Works Department and the Supreme Court.
This committee will identify constraints, enhance facilities for litigants and lawyers, and implement advanced technology. The goal is to expedite case handling, focus on the 'e-courts' project, and establish modern court complexes. Findings will be submitted by August 31 to Sanjeev Sanyal from the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.
