Britain Strengthens Stance Against Malign State Actors Amid Rising Threats

In response to increasing threats and antisemitic attacks, Britain is set to introduce legislation strengthening its ability to confront malign state actors. Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted the need to deal with such actors following a series of attacks targeting the Jewish community in Britain.

King Charles outlined the government's agenda in his speech, indicating legislative measures to counteract threats from foreign state entities and their proxies. Lawmakers have suggested the possibility of proscribing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), despite Starmer not naming it directly as a target.

The proposed law aims to identify and restrict state-backed organizations threatening national security through espionage, sabotage, or interference. The initiative followed recent arson attacks in London targeting Jewish community sites, with potential Iran links under investigation.

The government plans to create new offences for membership or support of such organizations as part of a broader National Security Bill. This bill will also address violence planning unrelated to specific ideologies and implement stricter counter-terrorism measures such as polygraph testing for state threat offenders.
