The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a mobile phone snatching and disposal racket targeting iPhone users. This operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of 66 stolen phones, an official announced on Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Sameer (23), Suhail (23), and Zahir alias Salman (36), were allegedly part of a network that sold stolen iPhones in the grey market. Their capture followed investigations into an incident reported on April 18, involving an iPhone theft in the Sarai Kale Khan area by two assailants on motorcycles.
A special police team employed analyses of CCTV footage and local intelligence, leading to the arrest of Sameer and Suhail. Interrogations revealed a receiver, Zahir, who facilitated the sale of stolen phones, resulting in the recovery of additional devices from Chandni Mahal. The police continue efforts to trace buyers and further phone theft links, with Sameer implicated in 16 prior criminal cases.
