The Election Commission has announced a comprehensive revision of Mizoram's electoral rolls, marking the first such overhaul in 20 years. Chief Electoral Officer Lalrozama confirmed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will span from May 30 to June 28, prioritizing the accuracy of voter registration.
In contrast to standard annual revisions, this SIR will be exhaustive. Booth-level officers will conduct a door-to-door verification drive armed with enumeration cards, ensuring existing and new voters' listings are precise and up-to-date. The exercise also involves mapping electoral rolls from 2005 against those of 2025.
The initiative, part of a broader nationwide effort, includes 16 states and Union Territories. Officials seek cooperation from political parties, allowing them to nominate representatives during the process. Mizoram's effort will run concurrently with similar exercises in Odisha, Sikkim, and Manipur.
