The Shimla district administration stepped in on Thursday, prohibiting the proposed indefinite strike by the Shimla Environment, Heritage Conservation and Beautification (SEHB) Society, which was slated to begin on May 15. This decision was made with immediate effect until further notice, according to official statements.

District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap indicated that employees involved in sanitation work are governed by the Himachal Pradesh Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1973. Consequently, these workers must not engage in work stoppages without just cause or neglect any lawful duty assigned to them during their employment.

The SEHB Society had initially planned to strike against the Shimla Municipal Corporation's decision to end the annual 10 percent salary increase—a move they criticized as unjust. However, any breach of compliance by society workers will result in legal consequences under the Essential Services Act, as emphasized by the district authorities.
