Targeted Strike: Israel's Attempt on Hamas Military Chief
Israel claimed responsibility for a strike aimed at Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas' armed wing in Gaza. The attack follows the October 7, 2023, assaults and represents the most significant strike since an October U.S.-backed ceasefire deal. The Gaza strike resulted in multiple casualties.
On Friday, Israel announced a targeted military strike against Izz al-Din al-Haddad, believed to be the leading figure of Hamas' armed wing in Gaza. This action comes in response to the orchestrated attacks on October 7, 2023, which have exacerbated the already tense situation in the region.
Hamas has so far remained silent on the status of their military chief, who assumed leadership following the assassination of Mohammad Sinwar by Israeli forces in May 2025. Haddad's targeting marks a significant escalation in hostilities despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement reached in October.
Eyewitnesses and medical sources reported that Israeli airstrikes had demolished an apartment in Gaza City's Rimal district, claiming at least one life and injuring several others. A subsequent strike targeted a vehicle, though details of any casualties from this second hit remain undisclosed.
