In a tragic turn of events, a 30-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted by a crowd in Telangana's Mahabubnagar district. He was accused of killing a young woman who had spurned his romantic propositions, police reported on Sunday.
The incident unfolded in Jadcherla town on Saturday when the accused attacked the 21-year-old victim with a knife as she exited an autorickshaw, inflicting fatal wounds on her neck. Despite being rushed to a hospital, the woman was declared dead by doctors.
Following the crime, outraged bystanders apprehended the accused, tied him up, and severely beat him. Attempts to save his life proved futile as he died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital later that night, authorities confirmed. The pair reportedly knew each other from when the victim worked at a private school in Hyderabad.
