A 19-year-old man has died after a confrontation with a wild elephant in Jharkhand's Giridih district. Anurag Yadav was struck on the head by the elephant, which was separated from its herd, causing him to fall into a nearby well.
The tragedy unfolded on Saturday night in the village of Bagodih, as locals attempted to drive the rampaging animal away. Despite alerts from the community, forest department officials reportedly failed to act in time to avert the disaster.
According to police officer Pinku Singh and village head Dhaneshwar Yadav, the area had been on edge due to the rogue elephant's presence over the previous two days. Anurag's body was returned to his family post-mortem, amidst growing calls for better wildlife management.
