The CPI(M) state secretariat issued a strong warning on Sunday against attempts to disturb Kerala's longstanding secular ideology and communal peace. The party highlighted the potential dangers of recent remarks by political factions and community groups, which could threaten social unity.
Particularly concerned are comments by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, alleging undue influence by the IUML in political matters. Following these claims, tensions flared with IUML activists burning Natesan's effigy, prompting further criticism in the SNDP Yogam's publication.
The CPI(M) stressed that Kerala's secular identity must be protected, contrasting it with communal polarisation seen elsewhere in India. The state has largely avoided such disturbances, and the leftist party urged political and social actors to uphold this tradition and thwart divisive agendas.
