In a tragic case that highlights the ongoing issue of dowry-related violence, a 24-year-old woman named Deepika fell to her death from her matrimonial home in Uttar Pradesh. Her family alleges that this was not an accident, but a murder driven by demands for dowry.
The police have arrested the woman's husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj. Investigations are focusing on the alleged demands for a luxury SUV and substantial cash payments made by Deepika's family. Prior to her death, Deepika reportedly called her father in distress, claiming she was being assaulted over dowry issues.
Deepika's family alleges the in-laws had persistently harassed her, demanding a Toyota Fortuner and cash despite providing a Scorpio N vehicle and gold as dowry during the marriage. The police continue to investigate potential discrepancies in the in-laws' statements and pursue additional arrests.
