The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday carried out searches in a land fraud case in Budgam district.

Searches were carried out Semsaan village in Budgam distruct at the residence of one of the accused in the presence of executive magistrates to collect incriminating material and other evidence relevant to the case, a spokesman of the EOW said.

The spokesman said the case pertains to an alleged land fraud totalling Rs 93 lakh, involving the accused Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Dar of Jawalapora, Budgam and Som Nath Koul, who resides in Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Janipur area of Jammu.

''Investigation revealed that the complainant was allegedly induced to purchase five kanals (one kanal = 5445 sq ft) of migrant land at Drusu in Pulwama and 300 standing trees at Bijbehara (in Anantnag) through fake agreements. The other accused Som Nath Koul posed as the attorney holder of the original owners, while Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Dar acted as witness,'' the spokesman said.

He said the investigation also revealed that neither the land nor the trees belonged to the accused.
