The Union home ministry will begin annual rankings of police training institutes and forensic laboratories from 2027, according to a new circular issued by the government.
The initiative aims to significantly boost the morale of the police training institutes and foster healthy competition to improve training standards, it said.
The ministry has also issued Standard Operating Procedures for all states, Union territories and central forces, they said.
According to the SOPs, the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) will invite nominations by April 1 every year. Eligible police training institutions of states, UTs, CAPFs and CPOs shall apply in the prescribed format by April 15.
The ranking will be announced every year in August it said.
''The top three ranked Institutes in each group of states/UTs and CAPFs/CPOs will be given certificate. The list of ranking along with marks obtained will be uploaded on the website,'' it said.
