An explosion occurred at an illegal firecracker unit located in a residential area here in Aungarh, resulting in the death of a woman and leaving another person injured on Thursday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Suman, while the injured individual is Gurpreet, police added.
Following the explosion, Suman was taken to a hospital with severe burn injuries, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Gurpreet's condition has been reported as critical by doctors.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that the blast occurred in the residential locality of Aungarh, where a man named Ashok Kumar was operating the illegal firecracker unit inside his house.
Commissioner Bhullar also revealed that Suman, who was killed in the explosion, was a relative of Ashok.
After the explosion, the other occupants of the house, which caught fire, were evacuated, Bhullar added.
Fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the flames, police said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
