Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested, and opium and opium husk worth around Rs 1.10 crore seized in two separate operations in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police said on Monday.
In the first operation, police arrested one person and seized 408 kg of opium husk following a tip-off that narcotics were hidden near a forest area in Ichaahar village under Lawalong police station limits, a senior officer said.
''The arrested accused, identified as Kailash Ganju, was apprehended in this connection, while three others managed to escape. The market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 55 lakh,'' Chatra SP Animesh Naithany said.
In another operation, police arrested two persons and seized 7 kg of opium within Simaria police station limits. They were nabbed near Bajrahi village while transporting the narcotics on a motorcycle.
''Based on information provided by them during interrogation, police also seized 78 kg of opium husks from their houses in Lutidih village. The market value of the seized narcotics is worth Rs 55 lakh,'' the officer said.
FIRs in both cases were lodged under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and all three were forwarded to judicial custody.
