Supreme Court Declines Urgent Hearing on Anti-Cow Slaughter Law Implementation

The Supreme Court has declined an urgent hearing request for a PIL demanding effective implementation of anti-cow slaughter laws before the Bakrid festival. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, expressed that there was no immediate urgency for such a hearing.

Advocate Barun Kumar Sinha, who raised the matter before the court, argued that Bakrid was approaching and urged the court to schedule the hearing. However, the court was not persuaded by the urgency argument, remarking on the late reminder.

The PIL, initiated by Satish Kumar Aggarwal, a former vice-president of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, seeks directives for the comprehensive enforcement of the laws to safeguard cows. It also calls for state governments to establish clear guidelines for regulating slaughterhouses across states.
