In an assertive move, the UDF government in Kerala has suspended five police officers involved in an alleged assault on Youth Congress workers during a protest against then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Alappuzha, 2023, official sources revealed on Tuesday.
The decisive action stems from findings by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed post-investigation calls by the UDF upon assuming office. Headed by Superintendent of Police A P Shoukathali, the SIT's mandate is to complete its reinvestigation within a month, indicated a police spokesperson.
As tensions brew over potential political motivations, current CM V D Satheesan reiterated implementation of judicial directives, addressing public dissent against previous CPI(M)-led governance, while emphasizing that no political vendetta underpins the inquiry.
