In a recent initiative to manage cross-border infiltration, West Bengal has inaugurated 'holding centres' for illegal foreign nationals. On Tuesday, officials confirmed the lodging of three suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators at the new facility in Murshidabad district.

West Bengal's Malda district set a precedent on Monday by establishing the state's first 'holding centre,' now housing nine presumed Bangladeshi nationals. The Lalgola centre in Murshidabad has since become operational, accommodating three detainees under strict surveillance.

The detainees were arrested after allegedly crossing the border illegally and residing in Lalgola. Ongoing coordination with state and central agencies will dictate subsequent legal and administrative procedures.
