In a shocking turn of events, jeweller Pradeep Soni was fatally shot by unidentified assailants during a robbery at a weekly market in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, Chhattisgarh. The incident happened at Kotmi village market late Tuesday.
Soni, who owned a jewellery shop in Pendra town, was shutting down his stall when three assailants attempted to snatch his goods. Upon resistance, they opened fire, causing panic as they fled the scene with ornaments valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Soni was declared deceased on arrival. The robbery has incited outrage among local traders, who are observing a bandh in protest. Police are actively investigating, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Authorities, alongside community members, gathered at the district hospital, demanding action before proceeding with the post-mortem. Senior police officials are on-site to maintain order and progress the investigation.
