The Kerala government has initiated an inquiry into reports of missing valuables from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, following a recent report from the police. This action comes after media outlets reported possible losses amounting to several crores of rupees in gold and coins from the temple.
Keralan Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan stated that the government had received the police findings prior to his assumption of office, and he has since coordinated with the home minister to address the issue. The state home department has requested a detailed report from the temple's court-monitored administrative panel, involving both state and central representatives.
While Muraleedharan expressed concerns over a growing trend of temple asset thefts, the temple's management has dismissed media allegations, asserting that all valuables are closely guarded under stringent security protocols, including CCTV surveillance. They implore the public to ignore what they label as misleading reports.
The temple, known for its immense treasure, gained further attention in 2011 when a Supreme Court order led to the unveiling of several vaults, revealing a wealth of gold and gemstones. Vault B, however, remains unopened due to religious reasons.
