A land disagreement in Ahmedabad's Nehrunagar area escalated dramatically when a retired deputy police superintendent opened fire. Ashoksinh Chauhan, along with his son and daughter, faced arrest after firing five shots from his licensed firearm.
The conflict stemmed from a lease arrangement gone awry between Chauhan and Hitesh Bharvidiya, who erected stalls on the leased property without municipal approval. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation demanded the stalls' removal, prompting Bharvidiya to seek land ownership documents from Chauhan, who failed to provide them. This led to Bharvidiya ceasing rent payments, culminating in a heated argument and subsequent gunfire. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The Satellite police registered a case under various charges including attempted murder and criminal intimidation, invoking the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act provisions. Law enforcement seized the weapon, arresting Chauhan and his children, with the second son noted as a minor. The ultimate ownership of the land involved remains unresolved, according to the assistant commissioner of police.
