The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has effectively obtained a preventive detention order against Rahul Balkrishna Shedge, labeled as a habitual drug offender. The decision has led to Shedge's confinement in a Mumbai prison, reflecting the agency's robust stance against persistent drug trafficking.

Authorized under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS), the order was enacted on May 14 by a competent authority. Following this, Shedge was placed in Taloja Central Prison, Navi Mumbai. NCB's statement highlights that despite multiple arrests and prosecutions, Shedge continued engaging in illicit drug activities, necessitating this preventative action to safeguard public health and security.

The PITNDPS Act serves as a crucial tool for law enforcement to restrain repeat offenders from exploiting legal loopholes and adopting innovative trafficking methods. Both the NCB and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have previously taken action against Shedge, emphasizing their commitment to combat persistent drug-related criminal activities.
