The Mizoram Congress has urged the state to suspend a fuel cess, arguing that the rising costs of petrol and diesel are significantly straining households across the region. The opposition party argues that these increases are untenable and are compounded by global tensions impacting fuel costs.

At a press conference, Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee treasurer Lalmalsawma Nghaka criticized both the central BJP-led government and the state's Zoram People's Movement administration for not protecting citizens from these rising expenses. He highlighted that despite campaigns like 'Make in India', the country remains reliant on imports, further aggravating economic challenges.

Nghaka accused the Mizoram government of unprecedented tax levels on fuel, with notable collections from recent levies. He urged the state to mitigate the burden by halting these taxes, particularly given the recent increase in VAT and levies per litre for infrastructure and maintenance.
