Anbumani Ramadoss, a leader from the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has urged the Tamil Nadu government to urgently provide details about the closure of 717 liquor shops, identified earlier for shutdown in the state.
The state's Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay had mandated the closures within two weeks, targeting shops near schools, places of worship, and crowded public areas. However, Ramadoss expressed concern over reports suggesting that not all targeted outlets have been closed, and criticized the officials' apparent reluctance.
Quoting Minister Vignesh, he noted that only 436 had been shut by May 23, with the rest pending closure. Ramadoss criticized the delay beyond the set deadline and urged immediate action to close remaining shops operating near sensitive locations.
