In Belagavi, police have detained two individuals in connection with the theft of Rs 1.2 crore in gold from a doctor's home. The suspects are Rahul Satish Kamble and Babasab Eerappa Katageri. Some of the stolen gold, worth Rs 52.5 lakh, as well as Rs 22.8 lakh in cash, have been recovered.
The theft was reported by Dr Annapurna Vishwanath Dhaded after noticing the missing 930 grams of gold. The lack of forced entry initially pointed to someone inside the home, leading investigators to suspect Kamble, who was recently hired as a caretaker. Authorities allege that Kamble took advantage of an old locker flaw to gradually remove the jewellery.
Both suspects have been arrested following a special investigation. Efforts continue to locate the remaining gold. Officials advise securing jewellery in bank lockers and ensuring home safes are sound and supported with security systems.
