Hong Kong Court Sentences Soccer Players and Agent for Match-Fixing Scandal

A Hong Kong court sentenced two soccer players and a betting agent for their roles in a match-fixing operation. The scheme, concerning the 2022-23 season, was uncovered by the city's Independent Commission Against Corruption.

The players, Brian Fok and Luciano Silva Da Silva, along with agent Waheed Mohammad, were found guilty of manipulating match outcomes for illegal gambling profits. Their actions included influencing match results or key statistics, compromising the integrity of the league. Fok was sentenced to 17 months, while Silva Da Silva and Mohammad received 14 months and four weeks.

In addition, Fok offered bribes to additional players, which were refused. Magistrate Peter Yu denounced the group for their calculated actions, detracting from sportsmanship and fair play in Hong Kong.
