Punjab RTI Advocate's Shooting Sparks Political Outcry Over Security Concerns

An RTI activist from Jalandhar, Punjab, Simranjit Singh, was allegedly killed by his cousin over a financial conflict in Maheru village. The police have arrested Sharanjit Singh, revealing that Simranjit was killed at close range with a .32-bore pistol.

Authorities have linked the murder to a quarrel over a real estate financial matter, as Simranjit reportedly owed Rs 5 lakh to his cousin. Opposition parties have condemned the incident, criticising the state's governance under the AAP for failing to maintain law and order. Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring described the situation as 'chaotic', and urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take responsibility.

The incident has intensified scrutiny on Punjab's security, with leaders like Sukhbir Singh Badal and Partap Singh Bajwa advocating for stronger measures to combat criminal activities. The opposition has called for urgent government action to restore public faith in security and governance.
