Transforming Transit: NCRTC Unveils Commercial Opportunities on Delhi-Meerut Corridor

In a move aimed at transforming transit hubs into vibrant public spaces, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has invited bids for licensing commercial spaces across eight stations on the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor in Meerut, targeting better commuter amenities and increased business activity around the network.

The tender covers 13 commercial locations between Partapur and Modipuram stations, where spaces will be allotted for nine years for facilities such as food outlets, cafes, convenience stores, kiosks and retail shops, according to a statement.

It said the initiative is expected to improve passenger convenience for nearly one lakh daily commuters using the Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services while also boosting local employment and economic activity.

The stations included in the tender are Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Bhaisali, MES Colony, Daurali, Meerut North and Modipuram, it said.

According to the NCRTC, the identified spaces range from compact 14-square metre units to larger built-up areas of up to 128 square metres. Some spaces already have infrastructure in place, while others will be provided as bare units.

It further mentioned that the stations are located in densely populated areas and witness high commuter movement, making them commercially attractive for retailers and service providers. The integrated facilities are expected to help commuters access daily essentials, refreshments and services within station premises, reducing travel time and improving overall convenience.

The NCRTC said the initiative is part of its larger plan to develop station complexes into commercial and community hubs while generating non-fare revenue for the transit system.

The 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor stretches from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut and includes 25 stations. At present, 16 stations are operational for Namo Bharat services, while 12 stations cater to local Meerut Metro services, including four interchange stations.

Between Meerut South and Modipuram, both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro trains are operating on the same infrastructure -- a first-of-its-kind model in the country, it said.

Interested bidders can participate through the e-tendering process on NCRTC's official website and the central procurement portal, according to the Corporation.
